Where I Live
Inspired by the beauty all around us, this is a collection of photographs from the places I live and have lived, the places I call home and where my heart longs to be.
I was a small child when I was first introduced to the Native concept that No Man can Own The Land. It made sense to me. How can you own the air? How can you own the beauty that is this place?
"Since time immemorial, First Nations have had an intricate, respectful, spiritually and physically dependent, grateful, and protective tie to the land. The nature of this tie is not so much one of ownership but one of stewardship. They feel they have been bestowed with a responsibility for the land (and sea) and all of the creatures that inhabit the land with them. This sense of responsibility is greater than an emotional tie – it is intrinsically tied to the spirits of all aspects of the earth."
These places are for us all. And in turn, they our ours to protect. It is my hope that will my skill and eye, that I pay homage to the beauty that is the everyday world around us. This little blue orb floating is space is special, and it's currently all we have.
Many of these photographs were taken on traditional First Nation's land. I would like to extend my gratitude and Thank You to the Traditional People who still care for the land.
As an artist, I am inspired by other artists. To that end I wold like to thank Canadian musician, Leeroy Stagger, for it is his song by the same title as the series that first provided the inspiration for me to start photographing the places I live and I call home.
